For a Chinese citizen considering Turkish citizenship through investment, the first question is not which property to buy or when to transfer funds. First map which nationality may be retained, relinquished or affected at each stage. The Turkish investment file and the nationality consequence are parts of the same decision, even though they sit in different legal systems.
The Republic of Türkiye Investment Office publishes the current routes and thresholds. Its guidance lists real estate of at least USD 400,000 with a title-deed resale restriction of at least three years, and USD 500,000 thresholds for fixed capital, bank deposits and certain other routes. Those figures do not promise an approval. The eligibility evidence, land-registry or banking steps, and citizenship application must still be handled in the right order. Use the Investment Office guidance as the current source file.
Why should Chinese nationality be reviewed before the investment?
Article 3 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China says that China does not recognise dual nationality for any Chinese national. Article 9 says that a Chinese national who has settled abroad and has been naturalised as a foreign national, or has acquired foreign nationality of their own free will, automatically loses Chinese nationality. The text is published by the National People's Congress.
That does not produce a one-line answer for every person. How a rule applies to residence abroad, travel documents, family members and the timing of an acquisition is fact-specific. Obtain written advice from a qualified adviser on Chinese nationality law before starting the Turkish filing. A forum thread or a verbal sales statement is not a substitute for advice on a status that may be difficult to reverse.
What is the safer sequence for a Turkish investment file?
Choose the route first, then identify the evidence needed for source of funds, valuation, bank transfers, sale contract or title deed. Only then make an investment capable of producing the relevant certificate of eligibility. The Investment Office notes the three-year no-sale restriction for qualifying real estate and the three-year no-withdrawal condition for qualifying bank deposits.
A residence permit is not the same administrative step as a citizenship application. The Investment Office's residence-permit guidance explains the residence framework separately for qualifying investors and family members. Ask the case manager to show investment evidence, residence process and citizenship filing as separate lines in the timeline.
Which money and document controls matter?
- Confirm the route, current threshold and holding condition before committing money.
- Keep source-of-funds records, bank receipts, valuation and signed-contract versions together.
- Track the principal applicant, spouse and children on separate document lists.
- Match spelling, dates and passport numbers across Chinese and Turkish or English records.
- Do not take an irreversible step before receiving written advice on Chinese nationality and travel-document consequences.
Frequently asked questions
Does buying a USD 400,000 property automatically grant citizenship?
No. The amount and three-year resale restriction are conditions of that investment route. The eligibility certificate and formal application process still have to be completed.
Can a Chinese citizen keep Chinese nationality after obtaining Turkish nationality?
There is no safe universal “yes.” China does not recognise dual nationality, and Article 9 sets out automatic loss in specified circumstances. Individual advice is necessary.
Does an investor residence permit replace the citizenship application?
No. Residence, investment evidence and the citizenship application may be connected but remain separate administrative processes.
Corpenza can coordinate the Turkish-side transaction sequence, document controls and local professional input through its Turkey citizenship service. Personal nationality advice remains essential before the final filing decision.
